Important Reads

Hey yall, sorry for the light blogging. Will be back up to speed shortly. In the meanwhile, I'll point you to some important reads:

Camille Paglia on Healthcare (via BFMc from Spitting Image - thanks!)

Hitchens (the preeminent Clinton criticizer) on Bill and NorKor

Anne Applebaum on August and Crises

John Mackey (CEO of Whole Foods) on Obamacare

Luttwak on the likely failure of attempts at diplomacy with Iran

Mexico as a declining Futbol Power

Thats probably a good start... Be back soon

  1. I think I stopped taking Mackey's article seriously when he referred to the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence in showing there's no intrinsic right to healthcare.

Mackey has no real agency on this issue, being the CEO of a corporation. I still think the burden of proof is on those who believe we shouldn't phase out the insurance companies.

  2. Also, this issue being of utmost seriousness, we need to constantly keep in mind the insurance companies reasons for hostility toward the new plans... of course they want money and care little about anything else. Any concessions they've made so far is geared toward survival. The first thing we should always ask ourselves is where the money comes from. What of these strange protests at town-hall meetings? Where is the money coming from to organise these? Which congressman are getting paid by the insurance companies? Where is money coming from? Why do pharmaceuticals research bogus things? Why is the money there?

A little insquisitiveness and curiosity would help at this juncture. At some point Americans have to switch off the T.V. and consult respectable sources. I think the issue is simpler than many would like it to be...
